I'm Soooo Confused!

Royal Canadian Air Farce used to have a skit called "The Confused Philosopher". Although I've posted one or two of these on Dan Brown's Blog on the London Free Press website , here are a few of my random observations of things that confuse me in modern life:

  • When people go to Costco on a motorcycle, what exactly do they buy?
  • If you are delivering fliers for lawn care, why would you leave one at a house whose lawn has a sign from another company already on it?
  • If civic minded people want to "clean up" their downtown, where exactly in their town do they want all the drug addicts and homeless to go?
  • Why does the "large" cup of soda @ Wendy's have the word,"small" printed on the side of it?
  • If kids can't be failed in elementary school until Grade 6, doesn't that kind of make,"No child left behind" a slam dunk?
  • I know that there is now "classic rock" and that there is very little big time current rock. So, does that mean that soon, we'll be subjected to "classic rap" and that current rap will become irrelevant?
  • When Madonna has "the talk" with her daughter, does she just hand her that "Sex" book that came out in the early 90's & say,"let me know if you have any questions"?
  • Are there any baseball players who DID NOT use performance enhancing drugs?
  • Are there any rappers who DO NOT have a criminal record or is that just part of "street cred"?
  • Why do golf commentators whisper?

Anyway, those are a few "top of mind" questions I've had in my warped mind lately. Do you have answers to any of these questions and/or have questions or your own? Post them here & thanks for reading.

  1. Steve: I hate to tell you this, but there is classic rap already. It's called Old Skool and it's Sirius 39. Rap from the 1980s.

  2. Dan, Old School & basically any rap is one of the reasons I wish Sirius offered a "pick & pay" option (so I didn't have to pay for stations I'll never listen to). I've said it before & will say it again; most rap music is glamourizing criminal behaviour. Thanks for the education.

  3. Steve,
Why do spectators have to be silent when a golfer is getting ready to strike the ball? Shouldn't we then also be quiet when someone is getting ready to bowl or bat or take a foul shot. I might watch golf more if fans of one player tried to distract another player when he/she is making a putt, similar to what goes on when a foul shot is being taken in basketball.

  4. Kathy, having the fans yell when a golfer is using his "putter" might make golf a bit more interesting but it'd take lot more than that to ever get me to watch it. I just find that game painfully boring to watch.

  5. Maybe, we should invent a new game, full contact golf, maybe it will speed the game up? Also another thing I never understood was these pros who have to take practise swings before they tee off. I'm a whack "oh sh**" player and my theory is get up there hit the ball and get moving. Well I guess that is why Tiger Woods is multi millionaire adn I am not.........keep them coming Steve.

  7. Anonymouses, thanks for your comments. I don't play golf or watch it. I accept, but do not share, the opinions of those who say it's fun, etc. but it bores me, period. I find it elitest also.
For example, golf courses are exempt from our ban on chemical pesticides. Why? I pay a lawn care company $400/year to come & professionally spray my lawn, plus they put a sign on there saying that spraying was done. But, that's not safe enough for our future genrations. It is however still OK to spray golf courses on which I might add, many parents send their kids to learn to be the next Tiger Woods. Golf is a "corporate sport" and therefore seems to have enough juice to avoid the restrictions imposed on the rest of us. We're supposed to accept dandelions on our home lawns but it doesn't make for such good membership fees if your ball lands "in the yellow" vs. "on the green".
