I can always tell when it's nearly summer because my mind basically starts to shut down. I have to work of course, but in terms of getting worked up, excited or even pi$$ed off, it just doesn't happen as much. Which means, it's harder for me to come up with things to blog about.
Once I finish work, all I can think about is going for a walk in the sun, wearing shorts & sitting on the patio with some BBQ'd dinner and a cold refreshing beverage. My mind goes into So-Cal mode (fortunately, no wildfires to go with it).
I'm not an NHL guy so the Stanley Cup playoffs holds minimal interest for me (I know that's sacrilege since I'm Canadian but I just don't care). There are too many teams now days. I mean, is anyone shocked that Phoenix couldn't sustain a hockey team, really??? Anyway, I used to be a bit of a hoops fan but that's kinda died out for me too since I got too old to play the game and since Michael Jordan retired after making that last shot against Utah (the comeback doesn't count; sorry).
Are you like me? Does your mind go on vacation even before your body gets to? Is there anything going on in the world of sports, politics or music that really has your attention right now? If so, I must have missed it while my mind was on vacation. Bring me up to date & thanks for reading.

Browne, Dave Matthews Band,
Jimmy Buffet, AC/DC, the
original Bad Company - but these
just get me through to late
July when the NFL camps open.
That's the time when I start
to get excited. Bring on the
cold weather!
Daryl, that sounds like a cool lineup. When/where are you seeing them? The Jackson Browne show especially interests me. I've just started getting all his early discs (up to & including Running on Empty). Just have to get The Pretender. Have you heard the Solo Accoustic CDs Volumes 1 & 2? As you probably know, he had a big role in Warren Zevon getting a record deal (he's mentioned quite a bit in the Zevon bio).

Steve: There's a movie, Summer School, in which one of the characters says there's a reason why we don't go to school in the summer: The human brain needs a break. It's so true. Summer is when the dog days of news arrive . . . there's rarely any big stories happening.

ReplyDeleteDaryl, not sure what I'll be wearing that night (maybe an NFL jersey would make me stand out??). I have the 2 disc JB anthology and it interested me enough to start getting the early discs (the $9.99 price per disc also helped :-) ). DMB are interesting to me. Sometimes, like on "Crash" or "Under The Table..." I really like what they do & others, I just don't get the popularity. They are the kinds of the "jam band" sound though, aren't they?
Steve: I really enjoy the carefree feeling of summer. There's a laisez fair attitude that seems to permeate everything.

Kathy, I know what you mean. Part of that was what attracted us to travel to So-Cal a few years ago at Christmas. We really enjoyed the San Diego area over the holidays. The people were friendly & laid back. Felt like an extended summer.
