For my money, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings are the best Canadian band today. Composed of bluesman Colin Linden, rocker Tom Wilson and folk performer Stephen Fearing, they came together as a tribute to their mutual idol, Willie P Bennett (RIP). They've recorded 5 CDs, plus a "Best Of". Although they're all good recordings, for me, their standout CD is BARK. If you haven't heard these guys, I encourage you to give them a listen and tell me what you think. I was lucky enough to meet Stephen when he appeared in London recnetly and he said they're in the begining stages of recording a new CD, which will likely be out next year. Can't wait guys!

I'm well aware of BATRKs, but haven't really
heard them. In a perfect world I could turn on
the radio or television and dig them. I do have
one of Linden's '80s LPs....and I see that he
produced the new Bruce Cockburn double-live that
I just picked up.
Daryl, Linden just released a nee CD himself that I quite enjoy. As you said, in a perfect world, you'd hear them on the radio? What has happened to radio? Their format isn't that far off what we used to hear on 70's & 80's radio? If you're on YouTube, check out their videos there (btw, their videos are part of the YouTube montage that is at the bottom of this page). Finally, check out Tom Wilson's other side project; Lee Harvey Osmond, who just released their first CD. There's players from Cowboy Junkies & Skydiggers in this group, along with Tom. I just ordered their first CD from Maple and it's quite good. Can't seem to find it in storres, which is SOP these days, as you've said before ("sleepy old London").
