As most of you know, I'm a giant NFL fan. So much so, that I actually watch the first round of the NFL Draft in late April. The NFL's popularity has reached the point where the draft outdraws baseball regular season and basketball & hockey playoff games that compete against it in terms of TV viewers. Even I think that's sad, but it shows the NFL's dominance as the major sports league in North America now.
I don't have a favourite team but because I live close to Detroit, I always hope they'll do reasonably well. Obviously, 0-16 doesn't cut it and you have to feel for Lions fans. I really hope they don't take Matthews Stafford, the QB from Georgia #1 overall. There are 2 excellent left tackles sitting there, plus a solid LB that they could use. Their coach is from a system that likes to build from the lines out, so taking a LT, like Miami did last year, makes sense. Then again, who says teams follow common sense?
The thing doesn't start until 4:00 now, so they're obviously trying to let their fans get shopping, etc. done first, much like what they've done with moving playoff games on Saturdays so they start @ 4:30.
Do you watch any of the draft or is that too much for you?

Steve, you and I are very much alike at
times....I LOVE the NFL Draft; I dig it
more than I do the Super Bowl. I'm wondering
how the 4:30pm start will affect TSN's
coverage. They usually leave after the first
round to get to hockey....maybe they will
shove it onto TSN2, which Rogers doesn't
carry. But, of course, us fanatics have the
NFL Network which carries the whole thing.
By the way, where is Adam Shefter (sic)?
He hasn't been around since the end of the
season.
Anyway, the Lions are apparently choosing
Stafford, which may or may not be a mistake.
Better to take Curry and then grab a guy
like Sam Bradford next annum to QB. Whatever
they do, the Rams are going to get a premier
player at #2.
Daryl, I checked the TSN schedules earlier this week and it'll move to TSN2 around the time the NHL playoff game starts (I think it's a later start, like 8:30 or 9:00 or so). I have satellite so I get TSN2 as well.
Adam Schefter is rumoured to have signed with ESPN, so that's why you haven't seen him on TV much since free agency started in early March.
Your Rams will get your LT with #2. BTW, I read on http://www.profootballtalk.com/ that if the Lions get a deal done with Stafford (or whomever), the Rams can start negotiating with their pick on a deal. I still think the Lions should take a LT or Curry. Sigh!
